 Company History - About C.E.M. Heavy Equipment

When was C.E.M. started:
In 1978 C.E.M. was started by Ed Valgardson with one service truck based out of Pincher Creek, AB. In 1980 a second service truck was added by Ed’s brother Pete and C.E.M. was then moved to be based out of Taber, AB. With Ed’s unfortunate passing in 2003 it has become more important than ever to maintain and build on “the foundation built on trust” that is an integral part of the daily actions of everyone at C.E.M.. Pete continues to work very closely with C.E.M. as the Canadian Service Manager for Hyundai.

When was first shop moved into:
In 1982 C.E.M. leased their first shop in Taber, AB which was followed in 1984 with the purchase of their first shop.

When was current shop built:
In 1999 land was purchased for the current shop which was built and officially opened in 2000.

When did C.E.M. start with Hyundai:
After establishing ourselves as a premiere service provider C.E.M. decided to expand on the service side by adding a sales line with this they started with Hyundai in 1995.

When did C.E.M. start with Copma:
With the growing demand for picker cranes and optimizing the use of C.E.M.’s new fabricating facilities it was a natural fit for C.E.M. to partner up with Copma Cranes in 2001.

C.E.M. Facts:
- Ongoing training for techs to ensure that C.E.M. maintains as the leader in service and
sales in the industry.
- Work in close partnership with local truck dealerships installing cranes.
- 9 service techs with over 200 years combined experience
- 3 service trucks (2 based out of Taber, 1 based out of Sylvan Lake)
